What are Wokingham District Council Planning?

Full details of the council's proposals can be found here. In particular within the Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document entitled "A Future For Learning". Please read this carefully. The proposals of interest to Emmbrook can be summarised as follows:-

bullet

The council wishes to improve the provision of secondary school education in the future

bullet

Currently the secondary schools are not evenly distributed throughout the Wokingham district

bullet

In particular the council is spending money bussing pupils from the South to the schools in the North

bullet

A new school will be built in the South of the region

bullet

The existing Emmbrook secondary school will relocate to this site

bullet

The vacated Emmbrook site will be redeveloped into a further education college offering vocational training

bullet

The plan will cost £100 million this will be funded by "selling off existing council assets". Government grants may be available but these are unlikely to be in place for the time frame required. Council tax is "unlikely to rise"

The council is engaged in a consultation period until 31/07/2005. Now is the time to provide feedback!
